The SLS test facility - first results

Proc. EPAC 98, p.1459, 1-JUN-1998, 3 pages [PDF] [DOC]

The SLS test facility is a 50 MeV S-band linear accelerator, consisting of a thermionic RF-gun, magnetic bunch compression (alpha-magnet) and a 50 MeV LINAC. It serves as a testbed for the development of diagnostic devices for the SLS and is capable of providing ultra short pulses for spectroscopic applications. In this paper we report about the comissioning of the SLS test facility and the complete characterisation of the electron beam including current, energy, energyspread, emittance and bunchlength.

Electron Beam Diagnostics for the Swiss Light Source

1-JUN-1998, 3 pages [PDF] [DOC]

Electron beam diagnostics will play an important role during the commissioning phase of the Swiss Light Source (SLS) and will later on allow to verify the design parameters of the machine. It will insure reliable operating conditions for the different operating modes of the SLS such as single bunch, multi bunch and top up mode. This paper gives an overview of the major diagnostics components, which are projected by the SLS beam intrumentation group. A new conceptual design for a digital beam position monitor (BPM) electronics and the alignment concept of the BPM stations will be discussed in detail.

SLS lattice finalization and magnet girder design

Proc. EPAC 98, p.644, 1-JUN-1998, 3 pages [PDF] [DOC]

We describe the studies on dynamic aperture for the Swiss Light Source (SLS) 2.4 GeV storage ring including mini gap insertion devices, magnet misalignments and magnet multipole errors. We present a novel method for calculating the Touschek relevant effective lattice momentum acceptance and lifetime. Finally we describe the design of girders optimized for static and dynamic fatigue with high precision mounting of magnets on girders and a system of girder movers to be used for alignment of the girders around the ring.
