ADDENDUM

Since presenting this paper to the conference, extensive interoperability tests between MICO and several Java-based ORBs have been carried out (see section 2.3). The Java ORBacus 4 package (http://www.ooc.com/) was verified to interoperate fully with MICO and has thus been chosen to provide the IDL mapping to Java. Java-based client applications developed for SLS booster commissioning have since been adapted and tested.
